The Philipsburg-Osceola Area School District is a small, rural public school district that extends across both Clearfield and Centre County. Philipsburg is easily accessible to State College by Route 322 and I-99. The district was created by the joining of Osceola High School and Philipsburg High School. The mission of the district is “to provide a supportive educational environment to promote student learning through academic rigor, district partnerships, and career readiness programs for the development of responsible citizens in today's world.”

The district is comprised of approximately 1,800 students spread throughout one highschool, one middle school, and two elementary schools. Students from the surrounding towns of Philipsburg, Osceola Mills, West Decatur, Wallacetown, and Sandy Ridge are offered a variety of clubs, sports, and other activities within the PO School District. Their school colors are navy blue and white, while the mascot is the Mountaineer. Philipsburg Osceola School District is committed to helping all students achieve at the highest levels, and teachers work collaboratively to prepare their students to become outstanding citizens.

Nearly half of the area in the Philipsburg-Osceola region is dedicated to the Moshannon State Forest, State Gamelands, and Black Moshannon State Park. Because of this, the majority of the residents of the area live nearby or in the borough of Philipsburg itself.

The town of Philipsburg is named after the first pioneers who settled there in 1791: three brothers named Henry, James and Hardman Phillips, along with their brother, Nathaniel. There are many historical sites to visit in town, a few key highlights being the Rowland Theater, The Simler House, The Union Church, Halehurst (was possibly a stop on the underground railroad), and the Hardman Philips House.

The many historical sites provide opportunities for walking tours through the Victorian downtown area as well as annual festivals such as the Philipsburg Heritage Days and Harvest Fest.
