The Details

Part of the Underground Railroad, this beautiful sandstone home is sited on 13.27 acres in the heart of Pennsdale, Pennsylvania. Originally constructed in 1797 by John and Elizabeth Carpenter, the Springhouse, which still stands on the property, was built over a spring on sloping ground. The Main House was constructed in 1804 with additions added on in later years. Inside you will find original wood floors, beamed ceilings, a walk-in fireplace with the hive entrance of a beehive oven and stone floor inlay that once served as the kitchen, two corner fireplaces for heating, Dutch doors, winder staircases, Limestone walls with 400-million-year-old brachiopod fossils and more. The site is heavily treed, includes perennial gardens, an in-ground swimming pool, a pond and grassy fields.
